The Red Ginger Chic Resort, Krabi, Thailand
THE BACKGROUND: The Red Ginger Chic Resort is the newest addition to established Thai hospitality brand MarKrabi's Collection, which includes the Maritime Park Resort & Spa, Islander Village Resort and Pakasai Resort, all of which are four-star resorts based in the province of Krabi, Thailand.
WHERE IS IT? Ideally located in the centre of Ao Nang Beach and Nopparat Thara beach in Krabi, but tucked away enough to escape the hustle and bustle of the many restaurants, shops, massage parlours, bars and clubs. There is also easy access to an array of activities, including snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking and elephant rides.
THE ROOM: The 63 rooms provide a large choice of accommodation including spacious Deluxe Pool Access rooms, with a sun lounger and private balcony. My two-storey Club Room included a double daybed with private balcony and bathtub. The bedroom was nicely separated from the living space, on the higher level.
THE RESTAURANT: The restaurant serves international and Thai cuisine, with the open-air design ensuring a pleasant breeze. There’s also a pool cafe serving light snacks.
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES: A fitness room, large pool, plus a separate children’s pool and Jacuzzi, free newspapers and internet access and an in-house video library. The tour desk organises excursions to nearby islands like Phi Phi or Lanta, as well as trekking in the national park, snorkelling and scuba diving trips or trying the legendary local rock climbing. There’s no resident spa but the Adora Spa at sister resort Pakasai is recommended and the hotel is more than happy to arrange the two-minute transfer.
RECOMMEND TO: Everyone! it will appeal to families with kids, couples, singles and anyone else looking for a stylish beach break that is easily twinned with the city. Thai Airways operates daily flights from Bangkok to Krabi International Airport.
THE COST: Prices range from between 5000–10,000 Baht per night (around £107 – £214). The Ginger Room, Club Room and Ginger Suite start at 8000 Baht (around £172) per night, including access to Club Room privileges such as a free daily steam and sauna at Adora Spa and a 15 per cent discount off the Spa menu, free schedule shuttle service to Krabi town, a complimentary cocktail at Ginger Bar during happy hour and a gourmet breakfast served in-room or at the restaurant.

Red Ginger's appearance definitely lives up to its 'chic resort' billing, with its vibrant colours and stylish modern oriental theme. It's a great location, but above all, a personalised feel awaits that you will always remember.
