Hotel Review
FuramaXclusive Asoke-Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Thailand
THE BACKGROUND: FuramaXclusive Asoke-Sukhumvit is the flagship hotel for the luxurious boutique brand FuramaXclusive Hotels which has three properties in Bangkok and one in Bali.
WHERE IS IT? The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Bangkok’s business district, just a two-minute walk to two nearby Skytrain stations, Asoke and Sukhumvit.
THE HOTEL: This tasteful boutique-style 98-room hotel – a mix of deluxe rooms and premier rooms – is very stylishly decorated.
THE ROOM: My comfortable room was very generously sized and radiated an inviting feel. All rooms come with luxuriously-appointed bathrooms – although the one downside was the size of the bath, which must have been moulded for a midget! All rooms are air-conditioned, have coffee and tea-making facilities, daily newspapers, IDD phones, iron & ironing board, mini-bar with refrigerator, safe deposit box, sofa, working desk and a 29-inch LCD television with satellite channels. Most rooms have free Wi-Fi accessibility or broadband connection.
THE RESTAURANT: M3 Restaurant is open throughout the day and serves an excellent buffet breakfast and lunch. As night falls the restaurant is transformed into an intimate fine-dining establishment. The restaurant includes a stylish wine bar, which screens major sports events.
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES: In the heat of a Bangkok afternoon I grabbed a drink at the pool bar and relaxed around one of the sparkling roof-top swimming pools. Guests can also take advantage of two hydropools, a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a gymnasium.
HIGHLIGHT: It is not for nothing that Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles. Thai people are renowned for their cheerful attitude, warmth, and hospitality – and that truly sums up every member of staff I came across at FuramaXclusive Asoke-Sukhumvit, who made my stay memorable. I also appreciated and enjoyed the daily Happy Hour, which starts at 18.00 each evening. On offer for guests is free beer, soft drinks and snacks. I enjoyed a few Chang beers with an English traveller visiting the city from Durham.
RECOMMEND TO: This is the hotel for leisure visitors looking for a great value mid-priced boutique hotel conveniently located for most of Bangkok’s tourist attractions.
THE COST: A Deluxe King room in January 2011 starts at THB3,500 (about £75) and THB4,800 (£102) for a Premier King.

Farce
This is an excellently positioned hotel that is highly affordable. Its brand of luxurious informality draws back visitors time and time again – I met an English visitor who was on his 23rd visit.
