THE BACKGROUND: The resort is undergoing a $100-million renovation that, when complete, will see it re-launched as The Tides Sugar Beach.
WHERE IS IT? Jalousie has a stunning location between the island’s famous two Pitons, secreted away in 192 acres of tropical rainforest. Over 100 villas are hidden amongst the foliage.
THE RESTAURANT: The new Bayside Restaurant and Bar is on the beach and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, all a la carte. The Great Room offers fine dining by candlelight and you can grab a snack including sushi in the new and very trendy Cane Bar.
ACTIVITIES: The resort has access to its own perfect white-sand beach, with some of the best snorkelling on the island. Every guest is offered an introductory beginner’s dive during their stay or, if they are already certified, a complimentary beach dive each day. Windsurfing and sailing lessons are free, as is all watersports equipment. A programme of activities includes yoga, pilates and Swiss ball classes, Caribbean dance classes and ‘Speak Creole’ lessons, walking, archery and bird-watching, tennis courts, a gym, pool tables, table tennis and a spa. Scuba diving and tennis lessons are available for an extra charge.
IS IS SUITABLE FOR KIDS? There is a programme of complimentary activities for children aged five to 12, plus a small playground.
DO THEY DO WEDDINGS? The ‘Just For Two' wedding package is complimentary when booking a seven- night stay. There are some special treats for honeymooners as well.
HIGHLIGHT: Staying among the beautiful Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
RECOMMEND TO: Mainly couples but also families.
THE COST: The lead-in rate from June 1 to October 15 is $240. Luxury villa rates start at US$540.
HOW TO GET THERE: Virgin Atlantic and BA fly direct to Hewanora International Airport. The hotel is a 45-minute road transfer away.

There's a fair bit of refurbishment work going on and the property represents something of a work in progress. But it still has just about everything you need for a sun and sea holiday – and in an unrivalled spectacular location.
