Hotel Review
THE BACKGROUND: This centrally located hotel is situated just two minutes from San Francisco’s Union Square and some of the city’s best shops. Hotel Diva is a modern hotel focusing on large and comfortable guestrooms rather than facilities and extras.
WHERE IS IT? deally located two minutes from Union Square and within easy walking distance from San Francisco’s famous trams, with easy access to all the main sights and shops. It is less than a 10-minute walk from Powell Street MUNI, from where visitors can catch the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation) direct to the international airport in just 30 minutes.
THE HOTEL: Spread over seven floors, Hotel Diva offers 116 guestrooms, including three suites and one kids’ suite. Children are welcome although families may be more likely to head to LAs’ Disneyland than San Francisco if visiting California. Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is noon.
THE ROOM: I had a well-sized room, which didn’t disappoint. It had a stylish leather sofa, which converted into a bed, as well as a modern coffee table and even a walk-in wardrobe with dressing table. Amenities include coffee maker, 32-inch flat-screen TV and Wifi throughout the hotel. The fair-sized bathroom included a bathrobe and basic cosmetic amenities.
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES: Almost serviced-apartment like in its approach, the hotel features no restaurants or bars. Its real strength is spacious and comfortable rooms with good amenities. Complimentary tea and coffee is available on The Salon Floor and the concierge suggested I bought breakfast from the interconnecting Starbucks next door. Hotel Diva is also situated opposite one of the coolest hotels in town, The Clift, so it’s worth saving on accommodation and then hopping across the road for a couple of pre-dinner cocktails. The very friendly concierge is however more than happy to help with any questions. There was, and will be again in the future, a health club but right now it’s just a great place to stay on New York’s Upper West Side. Wi-Fi is available for $9.95 per 24 hours, there’s a complimentary guest internet centre, same-day valet dry-cleaning and a coin-operated laundry on the premises.
HIGHLIGHT: The central location and large walk-in wardrobe with dressing table and mirror were a big bonus. The hotel also claims to have some of the comfiest beds in San Francisco and, after experiencing the large king-size beds with a variety of pillows to choose from, I don’t disagree. There’s also plenty of storage.
RECOMMEND TO: Couples of any age will love this hotel and its central location, as well as the friendly price tag. Families with children under the age of 11 will probably love the sofabeds, meaning that mum, dad and the kids can all stay in one room.
THE DETAILS: Rooms start at $129 per night excluding15.5% room tax.
